Artificial Intelligence has transformed Google Translate and has the ability to reinvent IT

Google has used artificial intelligence to improve Google Translate.

Those who have used the Google Translate program, which translates words and phrases, must have noticed the remarkable improvements in the past. First of all, words are translated in more detail, and they also offer meaningless tangential meanings. For example, the word “box” in English has not less than ten meanings in English.

But the greatest improvement is for expressions, where not only is the exact knowledge of words but also their use in a certain context, and the program must also take into account grammatical rules. In short, the expression has to make sense when translated, which only complex reasoning is able to offer.

The innovation underlying this improvement is capable of changing the paradigm of artificial intelligence. 

So far, it was believed that the introduction of as many parameters into the system would yield a more accurate result, but it was noted that this approach is impossible to put into practice because of the immense material; And also does not guarantee that it will have satisfactory results.
Instead, an automated, flexible intelligence is based on an artificial neural network, where “synapses” play the main role. 

It has been observed that such a network offers the adaptive capacity to configure/reconfigure according to assimilated data and information. The approach has thus become an evolutionary one, rather than a creative one.

How did Google improve this program?


The Google Brain project, initiated five years ago, has proposed to use the principle of “neural networks,” a principle similar to the one underlying human intelligence. The predominant feature is the ability to assimilate and learn from mistakes, just like the way they teach children.


This almost human flexibility is an idea that has been circulating since the early 1940s, but it was seen as a science-fiction science idea or one that slips into the mystic area. Until recently, there is no possibility of this idea being put into practice because of rudimentary technology.

Now, the possibilities are countless, extending to other Google programs, like Google Maps. Today, this program is only capable of doing simple and explicit things: driving someone from point A to point B, providing some information about traffic or the distance to be traveled. Applying the new type of artificial intelligence, the program can perform more complex functions. 

For example, the situation where someone wants to go to the airport, but on their way to stop at a shop to take a gift to his wife. The program will not only set up the route so that it stops next to a store, but it will know the trends and possibly the wife’s preferences if the husband will go this way several times. It will become, in a sense, more flexible and humane, and will learn from the experiences of the past.

One thing remains certain, if Google’s policy is geared towards artificial intelligence, which is what happens, the possibilities are multiple and difficult to predict even at a general level. The team of engineers claims that artificial intelligence will remain just a tool capable of solving concrete things.

 But such a hypothesis provides room for debate. If Google Brain has an organic behavior similar to that of a human brain that develops until the age of maturity, which are the possibilities for an artificial brain that is not disease or aging and which probably did not reach the ” maturity”? 

If in time such a complex structure will be able to create its own emerging forms similar to what we call conscience or the theory of mind? Although it remains a scenario as if it were Frank Herbert’s Incident, it is a possibility that this idea will be put into practice in the future; A future still far away, depending on extremely many variables.
